The seven-shot rally nobody trains for

We sat on court four for three weekends and logged three hundred points from division two and three matches. The median rally length was seven shots. Almost nobody trains for it.

Drills tend to be either short — serve, return, one ball — or endless, twenty-ball cross-court patterns that never resolve. The seven-shot window is where the point is actually decided, and it is the window that rewards patience over power.

Since we started building squad blocks around that number, the division three win rate for our members has moved by a margin that is hard to explain any other way.
