Students who write while a lesson plays finish two weeks earlier on average. Here is what six terms of completion data showed.
Re-watching feels like studying. It is the most comfortable thing you can do with a course and the least useful: you recognise the material the second time and mistake recognition for recall. Writing while the lesson plays forces you to compress, and compression is where the learning happens.
We compared two cohorts on the same interface course. The group asked to keep a running notes file finished a median of thirteen days sooner and scored higher on the first review round. The notes themselves were mostly rough. That was fine — nobody re-read them.
