Choosing a first racket for a junior

Parents ask this every August, usually holding a racket that is two sizes too long. The rule is simple: with the racket held at the child’s side, the frame should stop just above the ground, not touch it.

Weight matters less than parents fear and balance matters more. A head-heavy junior frame teaches a child to swing from the shoulder, which is a habit that takes years to unlearn.

Bring the racket to a pathway session and a coach will check it in two minutes. We would rather do that than have a promising eleven-year-old fighting their equipment for a season.
