Two river crossings, one long canter track, and the reason we assess every rider at the gate.
The ridge route is four and a half miles with two crossings, a mile of open going and a descent that needs a horse who will wait. It is the best ride on the place and the one we turn people away from most often.
The assessment at the top gate takes ten minutes: walk, trot, a short canter and a halt from canter. If the halt is not there, the ridge is not there either — but the arena is, and so is next month.
