The club is named after it, so we should probably explain how it is done. Three pacing rules and the one you will want to break.
Rule one: the first five kilometres should feel insultingly easy. Rule two: your fuelling plan starts before you want it to, not when you notice you need it. Rule three: the surge that costs you the race always happens between kilometre eight and twelve, when the field is still bunched and your legs still feel new.
The rule you will want to break is the first one. Break it and the other two stop mattering.
