We keep slots free every morning for pets who have taken a turn. Call before ten and there is nearly always something the same afternoon. If we are genuinely full, we will tell you straight away and point you at the nearest emergency hospital rather than leaving you waiting for a call back.

We are open until eight on weekdays and six at weekends, and we triage walk-ins throughout. Outside those hours we are not staffed for critical care, so our voicemail gives the direct number for the 24-hour hospital nine minutes away. We receive their notes the next morning and follow up ourselves.

Age is not a disease. What matters is organ function, so we run bloodwork and, where relevant, blood pressure and cardiac checks first. Every patient gets an individually calculated protocol, intravenous fluids, a warming mattress and a dedicated nurse monitoring depth, blood pressure and temperature from induction until they are lifting their head.

Almost always, and we would prefer it. Pets settle faster with their person in sight, and you catch things we would otherwise have to ask about. The exceptions are radiographs, where you are asked to step out for radiation safety, and the rare occasion where a frightened animal is genuinely calmer without an audience — we will explain why if that comes up.

Payment is due on the day, and we complete claim forms for every major insurer at no charge — usually within two working days. We can also submit pre-authorisation before a planned procedure so you know what your policy will return before you commit to it.

Any previous records, the packaging of whatever food and medication they are on, and a fresh stool sample if you can manage it. Bring your pet hungry — treats do most of our handling work. Cats travel best in a top-opening carrier with a towel over it.
